Customers needed per day, location by location

Put in each location you are considering and the costs that stay the same anywhere. See how many customers a day each site needs to break even and to reach your target profit — and which ones need an unrealistic share of the street.

How it works

A cheaper rent looks safer until you work out how many people must walk in every day to pay for everything else. The question before signing a lease is simple: at this rent, with my staff cost and my average ticket, how many customers a day do I need — and is that a believable share of the people who walk past?

How to use it: list the candidate locations one per line — name, monthly rent including service charges, daily foot traffic past the door if you have a count, and any fixed cost only that site has. Then fill in staff cost, other fixed costs, average spend per customer, variable cost as a % of sales (ingredients, packaging, card and delivery fees), open days and seats. Press Calculate.

For each site you get monthly fixed cost, break-even customers per day, customers needed for your target profit, seat turns that implies, the share of foot traffic that must come in, and rent as a share of the sales you need. Sites over common rules of thumb (rent above 15% of sales, more than 3 seat turns, more than 2% of passers-by) are marked to check — you can change those thresholds. Copy everything as CSV.

FAQ

Is my data uploaded?

No. Everything is calculated in your browser and nothing is stored.

Does it predict how many customers I will get?

No. It tells you how many you need. Whether a site can deliver that depends on competitors, real foot traffic at your opening hours and local spending — check those before you sign.

Where do I get foot traffic numbers?

Count yourself at the hours you will be open, on a weekday and a weekend, or use your city’s open data. In Korea, the Seoul and SBIZ commercial-area services publish estimates.

What is the free limit?

20 locations per calculation.
