SOP step checker

Paste a numbered procedure or open a .txt / .md file. Every step is checked for the things that make a new hire stop and ask: a missing step, no clear action, too much in one step, or a word that leaves the decision to the reader.

How it works

A procedure fails the first time someone follows it alone. The usual causes are small: step 3 was deleted and nobody renumbered, one step says “select the invoice, enter the customer, add the items and click Save and send”, another says “check the totals as needed”, the button is “Sign in” on one line and “Sign In” on the next, and a [screenshot here] slot was never filled.

How to use it: number each step (1., 2), Step 3: or ①). A line ending with a colon or a # heading starts a new section, and numbering may restart at 1 there. Lines without a number are treated as notes under the step above. Quote button and menu names (“Save”, **Save** or [Save]) so the checker can compare them. Press Check SOP.

Problems are things that break the procedure: skipped, repeated or out-of-order numbers and leftover placeholders. Check rows need a person: a step with no recognised action, one that starts with “The…” or “You…” instead of a verb, three or more actions in one step, vague words, long steps and UI names written two ways. It also tells you if no step says what the reader should see when it worked.
