Placeholder and tag checker for game strings

Paste your source strings and the translation. The checker finds placeholders and tags that went missing, got duplicated, or close in the wrong order.

How it works

A single broken placeholder can crash a build or show “{0}” to players. Translators and machine translation often drop %d, change {name} to a translated word, or break <color> tags.

How to use it: paste the source on the left and the translation on the right, as key=value lines (.properties style), a JSON object (nested keys are flattened), or plain lines in the same order. Press Check placeholders.

It recognises {0}, {name}, {{var}}, ${var}, printf (%s, %d, %1$s, %@), Unity / TextMeshPro and HTML tags, [color] BBCode-style tags, \n escapes, $VARIABLES, :icon: codes and HTML entities, and checks that tags close in order.

Does it translate?

No — it only checks. Translation is a paid service below.
